Getting started

Season 5

With every season up to this point, there's been previous write-ups I could look at to determine what major events to feature. As of Season 5, that is no longer the case. Season 5 is interesting because unlike what happened directly before or after, I've always seen it as kind of just another season of SiIvaGunner. Then I remember the Charity SLAM! and realize I really should do more research before I start to form my opinions.

SummerFes 2021 and Inevitable Holiday Celebration

Like S4E2, Season 5 continues to have Summer and Winter celebrations, this time, the Summer Festival is themed around the Wild West, with rips themed around deserts and westerns. Between events, there were also community posts and announcement videos that I thought were quite fun, making the whole summer feel far more connected than it often does. I often wish SiIvaGunner kept doing stuff like this, but then I realize that with how frequent events could get, recording a video with voiceover and unique art would take some time. Still, it really elevated the event for me, and the sub events within the larger event were quite interesting as well.

SummerFes Sub Events

Now, I've already stated my love for the 3-day long Gabe Newell takeover, how it mananged to capture so many parts of Valve's games and the communities surrounding them, and I'll likely talk about it more in the future, what being a notable fan of those titles does. But that wasn't the only good event from Summerfes 2021, The Space Jam Charity SLAM! also happened this season. The Space Jam Charity SLAM! was a charity event where people could request Space Jam mashups, and all proceeds went to the Equal Justice Initiative. SiIvaGunner's proceeds from album sales have always gone to charity, but this was explicitly a charity fundraiser, and one of the few times Siiva has done requests. Some great rips came from the Charity Slam. I often think of the Megalo Strike Back and Le Perv rips, and I beleive the entirity of Sonic 3D Blast on Sega Saturn was ripped for the event as well. It's quite something. Currently, there are no plans for a Charity Slam 2 or similar event. Which is a shame because that's the only way things I want are getting on Siiva...

The Charity Slam would happen during SummerFes, and be continued during the inevitable holiday celebration. Along with the Space Jam Fusion Collab, The ending of the Inevitable Holiday Celebration would also mark the end of Season 5, and usher in Season 6.
