What is SiIvaGunner?

What is Ripping?

Rips for Newcomers

Season 6

Season 6 Started with the deletion of GiLvaSunner, the channel SiIvaGunner is based off of. Starting on January 31st, with "Character Select (Extended Version) - Super Smash Bros.", only a short 5 days later Gilva would be deleted. thousands of uploads of Nintendo video game music would be removed, and SiIva mourned this loss with an event. This event included rips of games with notable differences in metadata, such as Super Mario All Stars, along with the first rips of the game featured in the banner, Tengami.

In addition to GilvaSunner, a memorial event for ripper R.L. 99 was held. I never knew R.L. myself, but looking at his output, I have a great respect for him. He made many rips of long and complex songs, particularly involving rips of EarthBound, MOTHER 3, and Plok. Some of the channel's greatest rips were created by R.L., and it's truly a shame that such a talented individual was lost. Many of the rips uploaded this day were in direct tribute to rips R.L. had made, featuring long complex songs and games he had ripped in the past, This playlist contains all of R.L.'s rips, including those on various fanchannels. Earlier in 2019, a similar event was held for Marrow, another contributor.

Season 6 also saw several extremely high-effort events, such as The Harlem Shakeover, a 9-day ordeal where former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai took over the channel and made exclusively Harlem Shake rips. Many of these were really well executed, and I'm sure you cans ee that it stuck with me considering Shakecoin, another project on this website. The full soundtracks of both VVVVVV and Harlem Blade: The Greatest of All Time were ripped, along with the creation of an original Newgrounds game, Kolo Terrorita. The Harlem Shakeover was incredibly fun overall, and I'll definitely make a page on it in the future.

Another massive event was the 2 week Fortnite event, inclduing rips of Fortnite, Fortnite related songs, and whatever other Fortnite media the SiIva team could get their hands on. The Fortnite event had several other smaller events take place during it, and while most days only had a couple of Fortnite related rips, towards the end it all Fortnite all the time. It was a fun event, especailly as someone who enjoys the game, and the joke of having a fortnight's worth of Fortnite was admittedly very funny.

Season 6 would come to an end with the Nuclear Winter Festival, also known as Doomfes. DoomFes was all about the apocalypse, death, and despair. In DoomFes, the SiIva AI universe underwent an apocalypse, recontextualized later as the AI Universe dying because of the Siiva AI's death in CCC Episode 11. to keep it brief, DoomFes felt like a fitting end to a year that was spent mourning the loss of both the channel's namesake and a prolific contributor. In a year defined by a real life death and a severe loss for the channel, it feels like a fitting conclusion.

I feel like Season 6 is probably one of the most complex in regards to the rips being produced, with Dancing Mad and One-Winged Angel becoming standouts, getting rips in multiple events, and occasionally just for no reason. The Harlem Shakeover even had a rip of the 30-minute Main Theme of Tetris on C64, which I think is one of the standouts from the event.

Ultimately if I had to ascribe two adjectives to Season 6, it would be melancholy, but also high-effort. Rips and events continued to grow in scope, but ultimately with the deletion of Gilva and real-world death of R.L., a feeling of sadness was felt over the entire season. A post by 7grandmel, a fellow writer of SIIva describes the year as one that "perhaps as a sheer coincidence, both began and ended with very important farewells." (link) , and I'm inclined to agree.
